Best-Selling Author Launches Second Fundraising Effort for Alzheimer’s Research

International best-selling author Tess Gerritsen is challenging her fans, readers, fellow authors and the publishing community to help surpass the more than $50,000 raised in her 2013 social media campaign to support Alzheimer’s research at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI).

The crime and suspense writer, whose work inspired the popular television series Rizzoli & Isles, has launched her 2015 online fundraising effort—from June until November—on the crowdsourcing site GoFundMe.com. Gerritsen has again pledged to match $25,000 to encourage participation and beat the 2013 donation totals.

“Watching my father lose his identity as he struggled with Alzheimer’s is the most devastating experience our family has been through,” said Gerritsen. “This campaign allows us to support the heroic scientists battling this terrifying disease and brings us closer to finding a cure. I truly believe we are almost there.”

As with the 2013 campaign, Gerritsen is offering the chance to name a character in her next “Rizzoli & Isles” novel, set for release in 2016, to two donors chosen at random from this year’s campaign. Four runner-up prize packages will also be awarded.

Contributions can be made on Gerritsen’s “War on Alzheimer’s” fundraising page.
