Letter from Richard Gephardt

Dear Members of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) Community,

Thank you for your role in the important work that TSRI does every day at the forefront of biomedical research.

As I indicated at a recent all-faculty Town Hall Meeting, the TSRI Board of Trustees understands there are many perspectives on the best path forward for the institute. We also understand that change can be unsettling, especially because people care so deeply about the organization. That passion is part of what makes the institute the leading force it is today.

Trustees, administration and faculty are now in alignment about the need to analyze and discuss the strategic future of TSRI. I look forward to participating in an inclusive process of reviewing a broad range of thoughtful alternatives to find the best path forward.

As you may know, president Michael Marletta has indicated his desire to leave TSRI and the Board is working with Dr. Marletta on a possible transition plan. Should Dr. Marletta depart TSRI, the Board will make any transition to new leadership our highest priority. Updates will be provided when more information is available.

Again, thank you for your commitment to advancing TSRI's mission in biomedical research and graduate education for the benefit of human health.

Richard Gephardt
Chair
TSRI Board of Trustees
