Upcoming workshops on the California and Florida campuses will present graduate student and postdoctoral fellowship opportunities available from non-National Institutes of Health agencies and organizations. The workshops will also cover granting writing and the grant review process.
The workshop on the California campus, scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, from 1 to 2:30 PM, in the Beckman building’s Keck Amphitheater, will feature guest speakers from Susan G. Komen, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and American Heart Association. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.
The Florida campus workshop, to be held Thursday, June 12, from 1 to 3 PM in classroom B159, will present representatives from the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, the American Heart Association and the U.S. Department of Defense. Registration is required.
Industry Skills
The second session of the three-part Industry Skills workshop, sponsored by the Career and Postdoctoral Services office, will be held Tuesday, June 10, from 4 to 5 PM in the Committee Lecture Hall in the Skaggs/MMB building. The session, “Getting in the Door with Industry,” will cover proactive steps in pinpointing prospective employers and connecting with company contacts. Registration is required.
The impact of stereotypes on women and their performance in academia will be explored at the next Network for Women in Science (NWiS) Coffee Hour on Monday, June 2, at 3 PM in the Faculty Club Tennis Room. The discussion will focus on the findings from a 2013 University of Minnesota Medical School study, “Does Stereotype Threat Affect Women in Academic Medicine?”.
The NWiS Coffee Hour is held the first Monday of every month. The TSRI community is invited to attend. Coffee and snacks are provided. Additional information about NWiS activities and resources is available on the group’s website.
Human Resources Training will offer a repeat class in Cascade, the web authoring and content management system used at TSRI. Participants will learn how to do the following in Cascade: convert a current website; create folders and pages; insert images, videos and PDFs; and publish pages.
The class will be held Tuesday, June 3, from 1:30 to 4 PM, on the California campus, building 3377, room 310.

Due to a decrease in the number of occupational medicine procedures completed on campus, beginning in June, the monthly onsite clinics now are offered only one Wednesday per month from 9:30 to 11:30 AM in Suite 150 (first floor) of the 3366 building at Torrey Pines Court. Clinics dates for the remainder of 2014 are June 11, July 16, August 20, September 24, October 29 and December 3.
The chart below lists the procedures that may be completed at the onsite clinics and whether the procedure requires pre-authorization by the EH&S department.
