Viral Pathogenesis
The Viral-Immunobiology Laboratory, under the direction of Michael Oldstone, also includes the laboratory group of Juan Carlos de la Torre. The Oldstone laboratory is interested in understanding the molecular basis of how viruses infect cells, how the immune response aborts viruses, how viruses wrestle control away from the immune system to establish persistent infections and how such infections cause chronic disease. Our studies focus on lessons taught by lymphocytic choriomeningitis and measles viruses, and prions and their interactions with neurons and cells of the immune system.
