CA campus: EV charging station installation

The California campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is taking a step toward reducing carbon emissions. Twenty-one electric vehicle charging stations will be located on the IMM upper parking level, and two (ADA accessible ) stations will located in lower IMM parking level. Drivers will be able to sign up soon to start using the stations. San Diego Gas & Electric will own, operate and maintain the charging stations.

Drivers interested in using the new charging stations should contact Pete Herold, vice president of facilities services, at pherold@scripps.edu.

More specifics on the locations and information for using the TSRI charging stations will be announced in the coming weeks.

Kendall Nettles to present Faculty Lecture on April 11

Kendall Nettles, PhD, TSRI associate professor in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology, will continue the Faculty Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 11, with a presentation, “Mechanisms of allosteric signaling in the nuclear receptor superfamily.”

The lecture begins at 4 p.m. in The Committee Lecture Hall in the Skaggs/Molecular Biology Building (MBB2N), followed by a reception in the Beckman Building first-floor galleria.

For further information, see the Faculty Lecture Series webpage. The series is supported by an endowment from the Cochrane-Cartan families, established by TSRI Professor Emeritus Charles G. Cochrane.

CA Onsite Clinic scheduled for April 11

New PreScrippsion Sound episode: The Architecture of a Science Institute

Ever wondered how the Hazen buildings on TSRI’s California campus got their distinct look? In the newest episode of the PreSCRIPPSion Sound podcast, TSRI Research Associate Drew Duglan, PhD, interviews Hazen architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien to learn more about their work. Listen as they talk about the history of building Hazen, common motifs for all science buildings and the importance of afternoon tea.

PreSCRIPPSion Sound is a podcast designed for both scientists at TSRI and a wider public audience. Its primary focus is to highlight fascinating areas of research within the institute, explore diverse scientific career paths to aid young scientists, as well as discuss wider interesting topics in science and technology.

The podcast host and producer is Drew Duglan (in collaboration with the TSRI Career and Postdoctoral Services Office), a postdoc in the Lamia Lab, who is currently investigating the role of the circadian clock in muscle metabolism and exercise physiology.
