The Network for Women in Science (NWiS) is currently taking applications for mentors as part of their Mentorship Program with the San Diego City Community College MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) Program.
The goal is to assist community college students as they transfer to a four-year university and serve as a resource in a STEM field. During the course of the program, mentors are expected to maintain informal conversation with their assigned mentees, as well as attend two to three TSRI events next spring (e.g., an Internship 101 panel, speed mentoring and resume and personal statement building). Mentors will be awarded a Mentorship Certificate upon the program’s completion.
Researchers of any gender, at any career level, are welcome to apply to be mentors. There are 16 mentor positions currently available, and they are expected to fill up quickly. For application information, contact Vivian Dien at vdien@scripps.edu or Jae Engle at jaeengle@scripps.edu by December 24. Those who submit application materials earliest will be given first priority.
The TSRI Career and Postdoctoral Services Office invites you to enroll in a course designed to equip you with the skills, resources and self-assessment information necessary to make informed career choices both inside and beyond academia. Classes will be held Wednesdays, from 12 to 2 PM PST in the California Campus Graduate Office, Seminar Room, and from 3 to 5 PM on the Florida Campus, Room B158, from January 4 to February 15, 2017. For questions or registration information, contact cpso@scripps.edu.
News&Views will take a break for the season, resuming its regular publishing schedule with the January 9 issue. TSRI’s Communications team wishes the entire TSRI community Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!
