Scripps Research Institute Awarded Four Stars from Charity Navigator

The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) has received a third consecutive four-star designation from Charity Navigator, a leading independent evaluator of charities that rates the nation’s largest nonprofit organizations for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

Only nine percent of Charity Navigator-rated organizations have received at least three consecutive four-star evaluations, according to Ken Berger, Charity Navigator president and CEO. “[This rating] indicates that your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way … and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust,” said Berger.

Guillaume Mousseau Receives SRF Travel Award

Guillaume Mousseau, research fellow in the Valente lab, has received the Mark A. Hall Memorial Travel Award, presented by the Society for Research Fellows (SRF) on the Scripps Florida campus.

Named in honor of the late Mark Hall, a Scripps Research postdoctoral fellow in cancer biology, the $1,000 grant is presented twice per year to a full-time research associate. The award aims to support postdoctoral fellows pursuing advanced training by offering the opportunity to participate in a premier scientific meeting, according to SRF President Sandro Matosevic.

Mousseau will attend the Cold Spring Harbor Meeting on Retroviruses next May in Long Island, N.Y. to present his work, “Mechanisms of HIV-1 transcriptional inhibition by an analog of Cortistatin A.”
