Former Scripps Research fellow Avi Spier, director of business development at the Genomics Institute, Novartis Research Foundation (GNF), is the featured speaker at the next Meet the Alumni presentation, scheduled for 4 PM Tuesday, February 14, in the Faculty Club Library Room on the California campus.
After earning a PhD in molecular neuroscience from Cambridge University, Spier joined the Sutcliffe lab at Scripps Research. In 2001, he co-founded Allon Therapeutics, Inc., based on the identification of a promising family of neuroprotective neuropeptides. He led the company to its entry on the Toronto Stock Exchange with two products entering clinical trials. He joined GNF in 2004; his responsibilities include developing commercial opportunities and strategic alliances.
Sponsored by the Career and Postdoctoral Services Office and the Network for Women in Science, the Meet the Alumni series features a casual setting and discussion format, covering such topics as career influences, transitions, and options. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.
