Jin-Quan Yu Wins 2012 Mukaiyama Award

Scripps Research Institute Professor Jin-Quan Yu has been conferred the 2012 Mukaiyama Award by the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (SSOCJ). The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to synthetic organic chemistry by individuals 45 years of age and younger.

The award announcement cited Yu’s research involving “Development of catalytic C-H activation reactions directed by weak coordination and their applications as new disconnections for organic synthesis; Discovery of ligand-accelerated and enantioselective C-H activation reactions.”

The award will be presented at the SSOCJ 2012 Summer Seminar from September 5 to 7 in Shizuoka, Japan, where Yu will deliver an award lecture.

James Lajiness Receives 2011 Lesly Starr Shelton Award

James Lajiness, graduate student in the Boger lab, has received the 2011 Lesly Starr Shelton Award for Excellence in Chemistry Graduate Studies. The endowed scholarship has been presented annually by the Scripps Research graduate program since 1997.

Lajiness' research focuses on the synthesis and evaluation of antitumor agents designed for targeted tumor delivery, as well as the total synthesis of several alkaloid natural products.
