Site preparation for the 16,000-pound sculpture took about two months
and included the grading and leveling of the site, the construction
of a supporting structural pad of concrete covered with decomposed granite,
and the landscaping of the area with trees and shrubs. Materials for
the sculpture—Scottish windfallen branches for the exterior and
California eucalyptus logs for the interior—were delivered before
the artist arrived on campus.
