The Beginning

Scripps Metabolic Clinic opened its doors in the San Diego village of La Jolla on December 11, 1924, with a gift from local philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps. Ms. Scripps envisioned that biomedical research would transform the entire medical field and left a small endowment in her will to support the clinic's research activities.
