"Neil Cooper actually joined the staff of the institute
37 year ago," noted Muñoz. "I apologize that we didn't honor
him two years ago because I remember going to his retirement dinner
and I thought he was really retired. I didn't know that scientists don't
really retire!"
Professor Emeritus Neil Cooper, the author of nearly
200 scientific publications, contributed to the field of biochemistry,
biology, and molecular biology of the complement system, a critical
component of the immune system. In recent years, he has evaluated the
role of inflammatory processes in tissue destruction and cognitive decline
in Alzheimer's disease.
