Paul Russell to Speak as Part of Faculty Lecture Series
TSRI Professor Paul Russell will speak on "Travels on the Road to Mitosis: DNA Damage and Replication Checkpoints" as part of the Faculty Lecture Series on Wednesday, December 12 at 5 PM. The lecture will be held in the Timken Amphitheater, Scripps Clinic, 10666 North Torrey Pines Road.


Lunch and Learn: "Food and Mood"
Registered dietician Andrea Harrison will present "Food and Mood: How Food Affects Mood, How Mood Affects Food...Especially During the Holidays" as part of the ongoing "Lunch and Learn" seminar series, on Wednesday, December 12, noon to 1 PM, in the W.M. New English Class Begins
A new English-as-a-second-language class will begin Tuesday, December 11. The class meets from 6:30 to 8:30 PM every Tuesday evening in the Immunology Building, West Conference Room. The price for three months (12 classes) is $60. Each intermediate-level English class covers speaking and listening, idioms and vocabulary, and reading and writing. If you would like to improve your English communication skills and increase your ability to understand your friends and colleagues, movies, television shows, and the news, this class is for you. The instructor Cassandra Wadkins uses movies, games, television shows, grammar books, songs, drawings, and novels to teach standard American English. Have fun and learn English at the same time! Fall Craft Fair to Feature Items Handcrafted by TSRI Employees
The Fall Craft Fair, featuring items made by TSRI employees and their families, will be held on Thursday, December 6 from 11 AM to 2 PM in the galleria of the Immunology Building. From fishing flies to stocking stuffers, the craft fair offers something for everyone: jewelry, home-made soap, handmade quilts, baby items, cards with photos of San Diego beaches, chocolate and English toffees, holiday pins and ornaments, and tree skirts. Increase your Knowledge of Word and Acrobat
The following desktop application classes are available in December:

  • Acrobat Basics (Tuesday, December 4). Topics for this class include all of the basics of Acrobat, such as using the navigation tools, creating bookmarks, converting a Word document to PDF format, and creating and using fillable form fields. Take this class to become familiar with a product that is becoming more popular all the time.

  • Tools Options (Tuesday, December 11). This class offers a review of some features of Word—the Options (Preferences) under WordÕs "Tools" menu and AutoFormat features. Learning how these options work can greatly reduce frustration!
