In Brief
Sorensen Wins Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award
Assistant Professor Erik Sorensen has won a Camille Dreyfus
Teacher-Scholar Award from The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation,
which is dedicated to the advancement of the chemical sciences.
The award recognizes investigators in the early stages of
their careers who have demonstrated outstanding scientific
accomplishments and displayed continuing dedication to the
education of students at all levels.
Sorensen is interested in novel organic chemical reactivity,
and a broad goal of his research is to approximate the efficiency
with which nature creates architecturally unique, biologically
active natural products. He and his students seek intrinsically
favorable reaction pathways by which commonplace building
blocks can be transformed to molecules that show promise as
therapeutic agents.
