Seminar on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in CNCB Large Auditorium at 4PM
Dr. Connie Eaves is well known for her exciting and pioneering work in basic stem cell biology. The core of her research has focused on hematopoietic stem cells and how intrinsic and extrinsic factors regulate their self-renewal and differentiation. Her studies have provided important insights into leukemogenesis and have led to breakthroughs in the treatment of leukemia. Dr. Eaves’ laboratory has also made seminal contributions to our understanding of mammary epithelial stem cells. Through elegant cell sorting studies she showed that individual cells have the capacity to regenerate an entire mammary gland. In addition to these studies on adult stem cell populations, she has been active in the embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell field and is using these cells to derive hematopoietic stem cells in a dish. During her productive scientific career she has received numerous prestigious awards and scholarships and has been elected a fellow to the Royal Society of Canada. -
