Aging and Healthspan

You are only as old as your biology says you are. At Scripps Research, we identify the fundamental causes of biological aging at the molecular and cellular level with an eye to fending off age-related diseases that undermine our health as we get older. Aging is central to the onset of many disorders—from cancer to heart disease to Alzheimer’s—and we now have the ability to decipher the roles of genetics and lifestyle in the aging process. As we better understand this process, we develop therapeutics to prevent and treat age-related diseases. The ultimate goal is to extend human healthspan—lengthening the period over a lifetime during which a person stays healthy and active.
