Normal Blood Donor Service
Scripps Research’s Normal Blood Donor Service (NBDS) has been created to provide normal human blood for investigators as a core service for the institute. It is based directly on the service provided for over 10 years by the Scripps General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). The first rationale is to provide Scripps Research laboratories with normal human blood for scientific studies that has been screened for serious infectious agents such as HIV and the hepatitis viruses. The second rationale is to have human blood drawn in a central location by licensed and experienced technicians, a practice that is designed to be compliant with Scripps Research policy and enhance the safety of the entire process for the blood donor, our scientists and the institution.
