This diagram illustrates the transthyretin (TTR) amyloidogenesis cascade. For amyloidogenesis to occur, the TTR tetramer must first dissociate into four folded monomers and undergo partial denaturation. These pieces then subsequently misassemble into a variety of aggregate structures including toxic amyloid fibrils.
