Slideshow: A Summer in Science

Each summer, The Scripps Research Institute opens its doors to the community in several science education outreach programs, sharing high-caliber resources on both California and Florida campuses with high school students, teachers, and college students. The six- to ten-week internship programs aim to recruit and train the next generation of scientists, provide teachers with cutting-edge professional development, and promote the understanding of the critical relationship between biomedical research and human health.

Here, Billy Debenham, an intern from El Capitan High School (H.S.), learns laboratory techniques from program mentor Jimena Perez-Vargas, a research associate in the Nemerow lab.
