Career Workshop Series: Resumes and Interviews
Two upcoming California campus workshops, sponsored by the Career and Postdoctoral Services Office, will offer tips on producing effective resumes and honing interview skills.

A one-hour How to Craft a Winning Resume session is scheduled for Thursday, July 7, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM, in the Human Resources Department training room. The workshop will present the differences between a CV and a resume, tips to highlight personal and professional accomplishments, and instruction in writing effective cover letters.

Providing interview training, the Videotaped Practice Interview workshop will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 3 to 4:30 PM, in the graduate office conference room. Ryan Wheeler, manager of Career and Postdoctoral Services, will conduct the training session, held in a small group setting. Participants will be videotaped individually while responding to standard human resources questions. Facilitators and peers will provide constructive comments about participants' verbal responses and body language, said Wheeler.

Participant registration is required for both workshops.

Play Ball at Scripps California
Team registration for the Scripps California summer/fall softball league is now under way. The 12-game season, which begins Thursday, July 21, is played at the Ocean Air Recreation Center in Carmel Valley. Games are held at 6:10 PM, 7:15 PM, 8:20 PM; days and times vary according to field availability and number of teams.

The recreational, co-ed softball league is designed for players of all skill levels. Registration fees are $410 per team, plus $15 per week for umpire costs.

According to Scripps Research team rules, each team must field a maximum of ten players, three of whom must be women. If only two women are available, the team must field nine players. Each team must also have at least eight players, two of whom must be women, and must also field a catcher. If you are an individual player looking for a team, you are also invited to contact Andreas Panopoulos, apanopoulos@burnham.org, of Sanford-Burnham, who is assembling a new team.

The softball league provides game balls and bases. Each team is expected to supply its own gloves and bats.

To register a Scripps Research team, contact league organizer Peter McNamara or call 858-752-9757. For further information, see the Sports@Scripps webpage.
