In the Lab

By the time the interns reached the lab, they were ready to make the most of their opportunity to work on a research project under the guidance of a mentor.

"[The most important aspect of the program for me] was the one-to-one mentoring," said Nazc-a-ru Gonzalez (bottom right), who interned in the Romesberg lab with Research Associate Joerg Zimmermann. "The opportunity to do research is hard to find!" Gonzalez, a senior at La Jolla High, will attend Harvard with a Gates Millennial Scholarship in the fall.

Also shown here are interns Hilary Wright of West Hills High School (top left), Jenn Won of Academy of Our Lady of the Peace (bottom left), and Gustavo Chavez of Escondido High School (top right).
