Scripps Korea Antibody Institute Takes Shape

On Friday, March 27, Scripps Research President Richard A. Lerner, Gangwon Province Governor Jin-Sun Kim, Chuncheon City Mayor Kwang-Jun Lee, and Gangwon National University President Young-Jung Kwon of South Korea signed an agreement to establish the Scripps Korea Antibody Institute on the Gangwon National University campus.

"I think the joint venture will help upgrade the research and development capability of South Korea and make Gangwon Province a regional bioengineering center," said Governor Kim.

Gangwon National University, with nearly 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students, is located in Chuncheon, the capital of Gangwon Province, in the northeastern part of South Korea.


Stem Cell Researchers to Speak as Part of CIRM Town Forum

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), the state stem cell agency, will hold a Town Forum in San Diego on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:15 PM. The forum provides an opportunity for individuals to hear from some of the most distinguished researchers in the field speaking on how CIRM is investing Proposition 71 funds to improve human health and what advances are being made in stem cell science. The featured speakers are: Scripps Research Institute Professor Jeanne Loring, Burnham Institute Professor Stuart Lipton, and Invitrogen Vice President for Research Mahendra Rao.

The event, which will be held at the San Diego Natural History Museum, 1788 El Prado, in San Diego, is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. To reserve a place, email your name and contact information to pace2curesSD@cirm.ca.gov.
