Ending on a High Note

On August 14, the California interns, including Miranda Stratton of San Diego Lutheran High (top left), Mario Ramirez of Dehesa Charter School (top right), and Mission Bay High Chemistry teacher Will Mellman, presented their research projects to mentors, parents, and supporters.

"It is incredibly exciting to see the interns present their work and to see the joy and pride in the eyes of their lab members," says Chevez. "It was clear that these individuals have had an unparalleled experience this summer that will change their outlook on their future."

Financial support for California internships was provided by the Biogen Idec Foundation, Diekman Fellowship, Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation, French/Masserini Charitable Trust (administered by Wells Fargo Bank), Hearst Foundation, Legler Benbough Foundation, Novartis Foundation, Shapiro Fellowship, and Valenzuela Charitable Trust. The week-long lab preparatory class was made possible by a partnership with the Life Science Summer Institute, sponsored by the San Diego Workforce Partnership and Biocom.
