Spring into Learning Before the high school interns arrived in Scripps California labs, they attended a series of spring enrichment tutorials, organized by Kellogg School of Science and Technology graduate students Dena Marrinucci and Kris Koudelka. Interns also attended a week-long "boot camp," held at the Southern California Biotechnology Center at Miramar College, in conjunction with interns at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, which shared the high school intern applicant pool. Here, Salk intern Susanna Fenstermacher and Scripps Research interns Megan Escalona, Roriscilla Wright, and Lensa Baissa (left to right) participate in a teamwork exercise. Interns also learned basic lab procedures and other skills, including documentation, notebook entry, and lab safety. |
