Ernest Beutler, chair of the Department of Molecular and Experimental Medicine, told the graduating students, "Today, you are receiving the academic degree that opens a door to what I truly believe is the most gratifying career upon which a person can embark."
He cautioned, however, that to succeed they will need hard work, honesty, good luck, and an astute choice of research topic.
