In Brief
New Ergonomic Showroom Opens
Is there a crick in your neck from typing at your desk? Is your thumb getting sore from all that pipetting? Now, a collaboration between the Environmental Health and Safety and Procurement Departments on the California campus brings employees a new resource to help address such problems—an ergonomic showroom where employees can try out specific models of chairs, keyboards, workstations, and pipettes.
The showroom, located on the P2 level of 3301 N. Torrey Pines Court, is available by making an appointment with Denise Devall, x4-8401 or devalld@scripps.edu. Devall will also be happy to conduct an ergonomic assessment of your workspace to help develop the best strategy for meeting your needs.
Library Tip: 75,000 Requests and Beyond
On Wednesday, June 27, 2007, the Kresge Library celebrated its 75,000th interlibrary loan request since adopting the ILLiad software in 2002. Over 60 people stopped by to enjoy a piece of cake and help library staff celebrate this milestone. The ILLiad system is used for requesting articles and books not available in the Kresge Library.
To further improve this service, the library will soon release redesigned ILLiad web pages with new features such as:
- Improved navigation
- Search capability
- Password reset feature
- Undelete feature for article PDFs
- Easier viewing of your ILLiad history
Look for these new and improved web pages in the coming weeks. For more information about ILLiad, contact the Kresge Library Help Desk, x4-8705 or

Picnic: "Hollywood Comes to TSRI"
This year's Scripps California picnic—"Hollywood Comes to TSRI"—is set for Friday, July 20, starting at 3:30 PM. As in previous years, the picnic will be held in the front parking lot of the CIMBio/CarrB Building on Merryfield Row, with a free shuttle service running from numerous points on the campus to the picnic site.
This year's attractions will include a "TSRI Idol" contest for the best theme-related outfits (with four winners to be voted by the audience), raffle prizes, an array of food, and new activities to test your skill. Live music will be provided by the "Pastafarians."
Ticket sales will start on Monday, July 9 and end on Wednesday, July 18. Since the picnic committee needs to know how much food to order, tickets can only be purchased in advance. Tickets will be available from numerous locations on campus, to be announced soon. For more information, go to the Picnic Web Site, watch for posters, emails, and announcements, or contact Vivian Lodes, x4-8068 or vlodes@scripps.edu.
