Look for New Health Plan Cards
The Scripps Research medical network provider, First Health Network, recently changed its payor ID number in compliance with the National Provider Identifier Rule effective May 23, 2007. The purpose of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) is to have one identifier replace the various identifiers used by Medicare, Medicaid, and other large payors such as health plans. The new NPI ID number is meant to improve the electronic processing of medical claims while continuing to protect private health information.

As a result, all health plan participants will receive updated health plan ID cards from Caremark reflecting the new payor number the week of May 28. The card will be mailed to the home address on file in the Human Resources Department. If you do not receive a new ID card by the end of June, you can request a replacement card by contacting Caremark directly at 800-966-5772. Please be sure to present the new ID card to all of your health care providers so that they can update their records with the new information for submitting claims.

If you have any questions, please contact Benefits, at x4-8487 or benefits@scripps.edu.
