If the fluctuating cost of gas or the time stuck in traffic is stressing you out, maybe joining a vanpool is for you. Benefits Administration is pleased to announce SANDAG will be on the La Jolla campus for three informational sessions to explain what a vanpool is and if it is a suitable option for you. Scripps Research also offers a pre-tax Transit Benefit to eligible employees.  To learn more, attend one of the information sessions on October 12:

 • 1:30 PM, Committee Lecture Hall (Skaggs Building)

These sessions will also briefly discuss other commuting options if the vanpool is not right for you.

Some of the topics to be discussed include account management through a variety of online tools, personal finance education via online seminars, and portfolio planning. Benefits Reminder: Floating Holidays
Human Resources would like to remind Scripps Research employees about the floating holiday policy. Employees who are eligible for holiday pay accrue one or two floating holidays each year as designated in the annual holiday schedule (one for 2006, two for 2007). Employees may only accrue a maximum of 16 floating holiday hours (pro-rated for part-time employees) at any given time. If you currently have 16 floating holiday hours accrued, you will not earn the first floating holiday in 2007 unless you use at least one floating holiday between now and the end of 2006. Similarly, you will not earn next year's second floating holiday, which will post on July 1, 2007, if you have 16 floating holiday hours accrued at that time.

To find out how many floating holiday hours you currently have, refer to the top left corner of your pay stub under "FL Holiday Balance." Scheduling of floating holidays is at the discretion of your supervisor and may not be used in increments of less than one day.

The complete holiday policy is available at: http://www.scripps.edu/adminguide/hr/hrguide1_59.html. The 2006 and 2007 holiday schedule can be viewed at http://www.scripps.edu/hr/benefits/Holidays.html. Please contact Benefits, x4-8487 or benefits@scripps.edu, with any questions.
