M.G. Finn to Speak in Faculty Lecture Series
Scripps Research Institute Associate Professor M.G. Finn will speak on "Chemically Tailoring the Form and Function of Virus Particles" as part of the ongoing Faculty Lecture Series on Wednesday, May 10. The lecture will be held at 5 PM in the Timken Amphitheater, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla.
NWiS to Host Inaugural Symposium on Women in Science
The Network for Women in Science (NWiS) presents the inaugural Howell Symposium on Women in Science and Women's Health Research on Thursday, May 25, from 2 to 5 PM. The keynote speaker will be Joan Steitz, Sterling Professor in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University, who will speak on "Lupus, Snurps and Women in Science." Also speaking will be Diane McKay, associate professor at Scripps Research and chair of the Women's Health Committee of the American Society of Transplantation, and Joan Kroener, a specialist in the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers at Scripps Clinic.
The free event, which is sponsored by the Doris A. Howell Foundation, will be held in the Timken Amphitheater, Scripps Clinic. A reception will follow in the Beckman galleria. Transportation is available to and from University of California, San Diego; contact saviran@ucsd.edu.

Benefits Alert: Retirement Plan Events and Appointments
If you're an employee, you probably know that Scripps Research is streamlining the retirement plans to offer a single record-keeper and a simplified core lineup of mutual funds. By now you should have received the Fidelity Transition Brochure, which was mailed to homes the week of April 3. This Transition Brochure outlines important information that may impact your retirement planning, so the Benefits Department would like to encourage you to review the brochure and attend a group meeting or make an appointment for an individual consultation to see how this process will affect you.
Fidelity Investments has been on campus the last several weeks conducting group presentations, help desks, and individual consultations. It's not too late to take advantage of these events! Additional individual consultation times have been added in order to accommodate those of you who still wish to meet with a Fidelity Retirement Counselor. The appointment dates that have been added are as follows:
• Wednesday, May 10, 8 AM to 5 PM, Human Resources Offices, 3377 Torrey Pines Court, second floor;
• Thursday, May 11, 8 AM to 5 PM, Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences Room 460A (Go to the fourth floor and turn right off the elevator. The room is at the end of the hallway, in the back of Lab 457.);
• Thursday, May 11, 8 AM to 5 PM, Human Resources Offices;
• Friday, May 12, 8 AM to 5 PM, Human Resources Offices.
