The seminar will be held in the W.M. Keck Amphitheater, Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences. No reservations are necessary.

Don't Let the Flu Strike You
Make prevention your priority. Human Resources is hosting a flu and pneumonia immunization clinic on the La Jolla campus on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7 from 9 AM to 4 PM in Room 205, 3377 North Torrey Pines Court. Scripps Research employees, research associates, and graduate students may receive a free flu immunization. Pneumonia immunization costs $40 (cash or checks made payable to "HealthFax, Inc." will be accepted). Family members are not eligible for flu or pneumonia immunization. This is the only time that flu/pneumonia immunizations will be offered on campus. For more information, contact Nancy Boccio, x4-8293.

A Look Ahead to Open Enrollment: On the Road
Open Enrollment will be held via an online system from Monday, October 24 through Friday, November 11. Open enrollment is the annual opportunity for employees to make changes to benefit selections and, if eligible, re-enroll (or enroll) in the health care or dependent care spending accounts for the 2006 plan year. Benefits Administration will be making a series of announcements over the next several weeks with important information regarding benefits in 2006.

Here's information about online accessibility and traveling during Open Enrollment. The online system is accessible from any computer with Internet access whether it is at work, home, or elsewhere. So, even if you're traveling during Open Enrollment, if you have Internet access you'll be able to log on to review and make changes to your benefits. However, if you will be traveling during Open Enrollment and will not have Internet access, please be sure to contact Human Resources to make arrangements to complete a hard copy enrollment form. If you fail to use the online system between Monday, October 24 and Friday, November 11 and do not make arrangements in advance to complete a hard copy of the form, you will not be able to make changes to your 2006 benefits unless you have a qualified status change at a later date. Computer kiosks will be available for use in the Human Resources lobby for anyone who does not have Internet access at work or at home.

Library Tip: Let's Talk About SFX
Want quick access to articles without leaving the database you're currently searching? Click on the "SFX@TSRI" buttons that now appear in all of the library's databases, and you'll see a menu of options available for a given article. These include a link to the full-text for subscribed titles, a link to the library catalog for titles only available in print, or a link to request a copy via interlibrary loan—and SFX even fills out the form automatically. Try it out on your next search or ask a library staff member for a demonstration. For more information, contact the Kresge Library Help Desk, x4-8705 or helplib@scripps.edu.
