In Brief

Don't Let the Flu Strike You
Make prevention your priority. Human Resources is hosting a flu and pneumonia immunization clinic on the La Jolla campus on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7 from 9 AM to 4 PM in Room 205, 3377 North Torrey Pines Court. Scripps Research employees, research associates, and graduate students may receive a free flu immunization. Pneumonia immunization costs $40 (cash or checks made payable to "HealthFax, Inc." will be accepted). Family members are not eligible for flu or pneumonia immunization. This is the only time that flu/pneumonia immunizations will be offered on campus. For more information, contact Nancy Boccio, x4-8293.

English-as-a-Second-Language Classes Begin
A new English-as-a-second-language class will begin Tuesday, September 27. The class meets from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday evenings in the west conference room of the Immunology building. The price for three months (12 classes) is $60.

Each intermediate-level English class is divided into speaking and listening; idioms and vocabulary; and reading and writing. The instructor, Cassandra Wadkins, uses movies, games, television shows, grammar books, songs, drawings, and novels to teach standard American English. Have fun and learn English at the same time! For more information, leave a message at x4-2176.

Library Tip: BioMed Central – Most Viewed of All Time
Which Scripps Research author's article has been viewed more than 13,000 times? Find out who is publishing the most viewed articles on BioMed Central (BMC). BMC is an open access publisher, which means that articles are freely available without a subscription to each journal. Over 100 BMC titles are included in the Kresge Library's Journal List, including BMC Biochemistry, BMC Chemical Biology, BMC Structural Biology and Genome Biology. Because of the Kresge Library's institutional subscription to BMC, Scripps Research scientists can publish an unlimited number of research articles in BMC journals at no cost. For more information, contact the Kresge Library Help Desk, x4-8705 or helplib@scripps.edu.
