Another Occasion—More Science The ACS conference featured another award symposium—the Arthur C. Cope Award and Arthur C. Cope Scholars Award Symposium. Lecturers included Professor Benjamin Cravatt, a recipient of the Arthur C. Cope Scholars Award, who spoke on "Activity-Based Proteomics." He described his work looking at dozens of samples of human tumors from breast cancer patients, and then analyzing them with proteomics, the study of the expression, location, concentration, and activity of specific proteins. The lab was able to detect human proteins that may be associated with breast cancer—including some that have never before been associated with the disease. |
