James Jaeger

Title: Project Coordinator, Department of Planning and Construction

Duties: Contributing to renovation projects on the La Jolla campus, most recently preparation for a new NMR magnet in the Buddy Taub Center for Molecular Structure and Design, and management of the tenant improvement project at Carr-B (CimBio) for the chemists moving out of the CVN building.

Started at Scripps Research: June 2002.

Background: B.S. from Cornell University in Facilities Planning and Management, with internships with architectural firms in Manhattan and San Diego. Jaeger ultimately chose the field of facilities over architecture because he "liked the focus on making things work."

Transition to Scripps Research: "I couldn't have arranged it any better. I graduated on a Saturday, went home to Long Island on Monday, started driving across the country on Tuesday, arrived in San Diego on Friday, and started this job the next Monday!"

Favorite Part of Working at Scripps Research: "I enjoy how different the projects I work on are from one another—I'm learning about all aspects of construction, planning, and design. It's also great when the scientists thank me for my work."

Home Life: Living with his dog, Mookie, in Mission Beach, where his family visits often from the East Coast.

Extracurriculars. Surfing. "I grew up surfing on Long Island. Now I can surf on the beach outside my house." Also, writing, recording, and producing music. "I have a home studio. The music is mostly folk—an acoustic Bob Dylan genre.”
