The group marching across campus includes not only faculty members and this year's graduates, but also many of the 200 students in the Scripps Research graduate program who came out to support their peers.

To earn a Ph.D. from the Scripps Research Kellogg School of Science and Technology involves many steps, including coursework, laboratory rotations, a qualifying examination, and dissertation research, writing and defense. Typically, it takes students five years to complete the Kellogg School program, which U.S. News and World Report ranks among the top ten in the nation in the biological sciences and chemistry.
