Sherman to Speak in Faculty Lecture Series
The Scripps Research Institute Professor Linda Sherman will speak on "Using
an Autoimmune Disease to Inform Immunotherapy," on Wednesday, January
14, as part of the Faculty Lecture Series. The lecture will be held at
5 PM in the Valerie Timken Amphitheater, Scripps Clinic, 10666 North Torrey
Pines Road.
Traffic Update
Starting Friday, December 12, construction work hours for the city's sewer
project will take place from 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The
added hours will help to expedite work along the La Jolla Village Drive
segment of the project.
Toastmasters Club Elects New Officers
SOS Toastmasterswhich provides a supportive and positive environment
to develop communication and leadership skillsrecently elected new
officers: Jeff Zimpleman, president; Editha Bornales, vice president of
education; Rita Noronha, VP public relations, Barbara Calabrese, VP membership;
Kathy Spencer, secretary; Valerie Moreau, treasurer; and Romyr Dominique,
sergeant-of-arms. Scripps Research employees are invited to attend meetings,
held on the first three Tuesdays of the month, 12:15 to 1:15 PM, third

Tuition Reimbursement Deadline Is January 31
Tuition reimbursement requests for courses completed during the 2003 calendar
year must be received in Human Resources by January 31, 2004 at 5 PM.
No requests will be accepted after this date. Scripps Research will reimburse
eligible employees up to $2,500 for courses completed in 2003 that have
met all of the requirements for this benefit. The tuition reimbursement
form, which lists all of the information required, is available on the
Scripps Research website at www.scripps.edu/hr/benefits/forms/tuition.pdf.

TB Screenings, Hepatitis B Immunizations, Serum Draws, and Tetanus
Immunizations
On Monday, January 5, Wednesday, January 7, and Friday, January 9, personnel
from Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group will be onsite to conduct TB screenings,
Hepatitis B immunizations, serum draws, and tetanus immunizations. The
clinics will be conducted at the Administrative Offices (3301 North Torrey
Pines Court) on the P1 level from 11 AM to 2 PM. No appointments are necessary.
TB screening requires a 48 to 72 hour follow-up. Individuals receiving
the TB screen on Monday will need to return on Wednesday, and individuals
screened on Wednesday, will need to return on Friday. Initiation of the
TB screening process will not be available on Friday, but Hepatitis B
immunization, serum draws, and Tetanus immunizations will be. To learn

Winter Break for News&Views
News&Views will not be published on December 29 and January
