Patt Cain
Title: Vice president of development for The Scripps
Research Institute (TSRI) and senior vice president for development
for The Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science, which
promotes philanthropic support of both the Scripps Health
system and TSRI.
Duties: Leading TSRI's development team; planning,
managing, and executing TSRI's fundraising efforts; representing
TSRI as part of the foundation's senior management.
Started at TSRI: August 2002.
Background: Twelve years in the development field,
including positions as director of corporate and foundation
relations at The University of Georgia and assistant vice
president of corporate and foundation relations at The University
of Iowa Foundation. Other relevant experience includes bench
research in biochemistry and positions promoting regional
economic development.
Education: B.A. with a focus on chemistry, psychology,
and mathematics at Mississippi State College for Women; M.S.
in biochemistry, Purdue University; M.S. in urban and regional
planning, The University of Iowa.
Attraction to the Position at TSRI: "For me, this
is a great opportunity to concentrate on fundraising for basic
science, one of my first loves. In addition, I look forward
to expanding my responsibilities to include individual as
well as corporate and foundation giving, and to work for a
private, rather than public, nonprofit institution."
