News&Views Wins Gold Quill Award
News&Views, TSRI's online weekly launched in January 2001, has won an
International Gold Quill Award from the International Association of Business
Communicators (IABC). According to the IABC, "winning a Gold Quill Award
is the highest level of professional acknowledgement that can be attained
within business communication. In 2002, the Gold Quill Awards program
attracted 1,300 entries from communication professionals the world over...
[News&Views is deemed] to be a model of international best practice, communication
excellence, innovation and meeting or exceeding measurable outcomes."
News&Views staff are Jason Socrates Bardi, science writer; Kevin Fung,
production coordinator; Jennifer O'Sullivan, editorial/production associate;
Jann Coury, production associate; and Mika Ono, editor. The publication's
editorial advisor is Robin Clark (formerly Goldsmith); its scientific
advisor is Jeffery Kelly, vice president for academic affairs and dean
of graduate studies.
TSRI to Host First Annual Open House/Job Fair
TSRI will host the First Annual Open House/Job Fair on Friday, May
10, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in the Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences. The
event will include lab tours and a resume and interviewing seminar. Human
Resources staff will be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments will
be provided. Directions, a campus
map, and parking information can be downloaded from the Human Resources
Job Fair website.
Bloodborne Pathogen Training Moved to Green Hospital
Environmental Health and Safety will offer a 45-minute training session
for those working with blood, blood products, and human cell lines on
Monday, April 22, at 1 PM. Due to the overwhelming response to the announcement,
the venue has been changed to the Valerie Timkin Amphitheater at Green
Hospital (second floor). No registration is necessary.
Lunch and Learn: "Building a Strong Marriage"
What really predicts unhappy marriage and divorce? What do happily
marrieds do that unhappily marrieds don't? What are the steps to rebuild
a strong marriage? Clinical Psychologist Colleen K. Hoblit will speak
on "Building a Strong Marriage" on Monday, April 29, from 12:30 to 1:30
PM, as part of the ongoing Lunch and Learn seminar series. The event will
be held in the W.M. Keck Amphitheater in The Beckman Center for Chemical

Mother's Day to Follow May 2 Spring Craft Fair
This year, the Spring Craft Fair will be held shortly before Mother's
Dayon Thursday, May 2, from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Immunology Galleria.
The crafts for sale will include jewelry, homemade soaps, gift baskets,
airplants, chocolates, table runners, handmade quilts, children's clothing,
