Coping with Traumatic Events: Drop-In Group and Other Resources
Jan Hill, director of the Employee and Graduate Student Counseling Department,
will be facilitating an unstructured drop-in group on Monday, September
17 from 12:30 to 2 PM for any employees or graduate students who would
like to get together to discuss the tragic events of September 11. It
will be held in the E.B. Conference Room, fourth floor of the Beckman
Building (BCC4).
Hill also wishes to share the following resources for coping with the
tragedy:
- Those in need of immediate counseling who are enrolled in one of
TSRI's health plans can call United Behavioral Health's 24-hour hotline
at 800-358-8515 (800-898-1118 for hearing-impaired individuals).
- United Behavioral Health has posted a fact sheet on its web site,
"Coping
with Traumatic Events".
- The
American Psychological Association web site also offers information
on traumatic stress.

Lunch and Learn: "Children and Safety on the Internet"
Sergeant Dave Jones of the San Diego Police Department Internet Crimes
Against Children Task Force will present "Children and Safety on the Internet"
as part of the ongoing Lunch and Learn seminar series. The event will
be held on Wednesday, September 19, noon to 1 PM, in the W.M. Keck Amphitheater
in the Beckman Center for Chemical Sciences. No registration is necessary.

ScrippsAssists Needs Volunteers to Help Elderly
ScrippsAssists is looking for about 20 volunteers to help with yard work
and minor household projects for the elderly in Vista on October 6 from
9 AM to 12:30 PM. This project is organized in cooperation with the North
County Council on Aging. Children over 10 are also welcome. For more information

TB Screenings, Hepatitis B Immunizations, and Serum Draws
On Monday, September 17, Wednesday, September 19, and Friday, September
21, personnel from Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group will be on-site to
conduct TB screenings, Hepatitis B immunizations, and serum draws. The
clinics will be conducted at the Administrative Offices (3301 North Torrey
Pines Court) on the P1 level from 11 AM to 2 PM. No appointments are necessary.
TB screening requires a 48 to 72 hour follow-up. Individuals receiving
the TB screen on Monday will need to return on Wednesday; individuals
screened on Wednesday, will need to return on Friday. Initiation of the
TB screening process will not be available on Friday, but Hepatitis B
immunization and serum draws will be. To learn more about these programs,
