Watson to Present DNA Thoughts
Nobel laureate James D. Watson, president of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory,
will present "DNA Thoughts" on Friday, March 23, as part of the Society
of Fellows Distinguished Lecturer Series. This event, which is open to
the public, will be held in the Valerie Timken Amphitheater of the Green
Hospital Building at 4 PM. Earlier that day, Watson will participate in
a graduate student discussion in the Roon Foundation Conference Room,
Beckman Center 5S, at 2 PM, and a research associate discussion in the
Roon Foundation Conference Room, 2:55 PM.
Williamson to Speak on RNA as Part of Faculty Lecture Series
Professor Jamie Williamson of the Department of Molecular Biology will
speak on "RNA Structure and RNA-Protein Interactions" on Wednesday, March
14 at 5 PM as part of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) Faculty Lecture
Series. The lecture will be held in the Scripps Clinic amphitheater and
will be followed by a reception in the Immunology Building.
Mentoring Next Topic of Developing Research Ethics Series
Professor Donald E. Mosier and Assistant Professor Janis H. Jackson
will present "The Importance of Mentoring: Teaching Professional Responsibility
by Example," the fifth lecture in the Developing Research Ethics for Responsible
Conduct in Research series. The event will take place on Thursday, March
15, from 4:30 to 6 PM in the Valerie Timken Amphitheatre, Scripps Green
Hospital, Scripps Clinic.
Lunch and Learn: "Safeguarding Your Legal Interests"
Anthony Vallaadolid, the directing attorney for the University of California,
San Diego will present "Safeguarding Your Legal Interests" as part of
the Lunch and Learn seminar series. The event will take place on Wednesday,
March 14, from noon to 1 PM, in the W.M. Keck Amphitheater in the Beckman
Center for Chemical Sciences. The seminar will cover a general overview
of the legal system, self-representation in administrative and judicial
hearings, and protection of legal interests with or without a lawyer.

Free Padres Tickets to be Distributed Through News&Views
Those on campus interested in free Padres tickets will be able to enter
their names in a lottery using the News&Views site beginning Monday, March
12. Drawings will be held at the end of each month for the following months
games. Look for more details in the next issue of News&Views.
