Scripps Research Translational Institute welcomes academic nursing expert Lorraine Evangelista
October 10, 2018
Lorraine S. Evangelista, PhD, RN, has joined the Scripps Research Translational Institute as associate scientific director for the All of Us Research Program’s Participant Center. A clinical researcher for more than 20 years, Evangelista will apply her extensive expertise in patient-centered care and digital health technologies to enhancing the participant experience for All of Us program enrollees.
The All of Us Research Program, led by the National Institutes of Health, aims to enroll one million people as citizen-scientists in a pioneering, decade-long research effort designed to advance health research breakthroughs and precision medicine. The program’s Participant Center, directed by a team at Scripps Research, manages the enrollment of direct volunteers—individuals interested in joining the study directly rather than through a participating health care provider organization.
“Lorraine brings one-of-a-kind experience in designing and testing information and mobile communication technologies and health applications, and assessing their impact on patient activation,” says Steven Steinhubl, MD, director of digital medicine at the Translational Institute and an associate professor at Scripps Research. “We’re fortunate to have her join our team and contribute her knowledge to our efforts to apply a truly participant-centric approach to transforming clinical research.”
Evangelista will divide her time between Scripps Research and the University of California, Irvine, where she is a professor at the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing.
