SCRIPPS FLORIDA HELPS MARK RARE DISEASE DAY
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2012, 1 PM
WHAT: The Scripps Research Institute will mark Rare Disease Day by hosting an event with proclamations from Office of the Governor, Palm Beach County, and the City of Jupiter. Rare Disease Day aims to raise public awareness of rare diseases. While each rare disease affects fewer than 200,000 Americans, put together these diseases affect nearly 20 million people across the nation (see the National Organization for Rare Disorders at www.rarediseases.org.)
WHO: Attending the event will be:
- Ron Davis, chair of Scripps Research Department of Neuroscience, and other Scripps Research faculty members
- Cindy L. DeFlippo, assistant to Commissioner Karen Marcus, Palm Beach Board of County Commissioners
- Wendy Harrison, member of the Jupiter Town Council
- Jim Kuretski, vice-mayor of Jupiter
- Several local residents who suffer from rare diseases
