Scripps Research chemist Keary Engle, PhD, has received the 2021 Emerging Investigator Lectureship from ChemComm, a journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The high-profile award is designed to support outstanding emerging scientists in the earlier stages of their academic career and is open to those from across the chemical sciences who have made research contributions of major significance.

“Previous ChemComm Emerging Investigators are luminaries in the field and I’m humbled to be listed among them,” says Engle. “Full credit goes to the members of my research group. The students and postdocs that I work with are so talented, creative and driven, and this award directly reflects their ability to tackle highly complex problems together as a team.”

Engle’s research is focused on organic chemistry methods, seeking to streamline the synthesis of new complex molecules that could be applied as pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals.

In addition to a certificate of recognition and honorarium, Engle will be invited to present his lab’s work at a future ChemComm Emerging Investigator Lecture. In addition, Engle will be asked to contribute a feature article for publication in the journal.

Engle is a joint recipient of the 2021 Lectureship alongside Thomas Bennett, PhD, at the University of Cambridge.

ChemComm publishes urgent research which is of outstanding significance and interest to experts in the field, while also appealing to the journal’s general chemistry readership.
