Clusters 4, 7, and 8 represent genes expressed during post-natal mouse retina development, whose expression is high at birth and then generally decreases throughout post-natal development. The final stages of retina neural development continue through the first week after birth, after which final maturation of the retina takes place coinciding with visual acuity at post-natal day 14. Although many developmental events are occurring simultaneously and caution should be taken when predicting gene functions from expression data alone, these genes have a higher likelihood of being involved in neural development. This includes genes required for the proliferation, migration, differentiation and maturation of neurons and neuronal synapses. Cluster 4 genes generally have smaller, more consistent overall decreases in expression.
